Your best bet is to major in electrical engineering. Do not get an airway sciences degree it will do you nothing. Another thing to consider is is it really worth it to spend $200,000 on an education that will get you maybe $25,000 a year. I did and I wish I didn’t. But the truth is you have about a 2% chance of making it to a major airline. Talk to other pilots at the airports not airline pilots. There is no shortage of pilots so don’t fall into that lie. Actually there are thousands of highly qualified pilots with 10,000 plus hours of turbine time that are having a hard time finding carrier jobs. You also have to look at the time frame of when you will be qualified to fly for a decent wage. If you start training today it will be 10 plus years of poverty before an airlines will even look at you. Expect to have at least 2,500 hours of multi-engine time with at least 1,500 of that being turbine, how are you going to get that time? Worst part is for you is when this Iraq war winds down you will be competing against 1000’s of highly qualified military pilots that will be leaving the service. Best bet actually your only bet is to try and get a flying position in the military. Sorry to rain on your parade I wish I would have been told the truth.

If you are speaking of aviation, you should be studying engineering courses, as much of commercial aviation is knowing how various aircraft systems work. But pilot instruction is a different thing altogether, and you should go to a fixed base operator at a small airport and make inquiries. It is a fascinating field — but expensive to get into.
