No, a “W” grade is not equivalent to a “D” grade. A “W” is a withdrawal grade and it does not affect your GPA, whereas, a “D” affects your GPA. A “D” is only worth 1 quality point which will factor into your GPA. Neither a “W” nor a “D” will transfer to another institution. A “D” technically is a passing grade since you will have earned credit for the course. However, a “D” normally does not allow you to take the next higher level course.
Best wishes!

A “W” or a withdrawal means that you did not complete the course, but did not get a grade in it. In all honestly, a W is not a good thing to have, but it doesn’t affect your GPA. However, in the future it would be a good idea to retake a W class if possible to replace it with an actual grade, which will boost your GPA.

A w in college means you withdrew from the course that you were taking. You get no grade and no credit or it.
