Aha…the “Tell me more about yourself” question 😀 Always posing problems. But it’s quite simple to build a strong effective answer to that if you know some rules:

Most interviews ask basic questions that are designed to show them what you really think. Some common questions will probably go along the lines of

“…so why did you choose this school?”

“…why do you want to get into this profession?”

“…where do you see yourself after graduating?”

Other questions are more designed to determine whether you would be a good “fit” with the current student population…

“…what do you like to do for fun?” This is a carefully worded inquiry to determine if you’re a “party animal” or a “studious prospect” so answer truthfully, but beware.

“…what sort of hobbies do you enjoy?” another semi-loaded question to see if you enjoy some sort of extra-curricular activity that may not be in keeping with the school’s image, like growing your own controlled substances for personal use (this would be a BAD thing to say…or do)

Finally – you’re likely to face situational questions which will disclose how you handle yourself.

“…tell me about a time when you had a disagreement with someone, how did you resolve it?” “I punched them in in head” while truthful, is probably not the answer they’re looking for.

In short – after each question is asked, -pause- then answer the question…then be quiet! Don’t start babbling about things not asked, or go into your personal history.

Also – CAUTION – Do Not Bash your former educators or any other education institution you attended. Remember the people you’re talking to, might know someone from there and certainly might take it personal if you’re knocking a colleague!
