Incentive for going to college?

Hi, everyone. I just graduated from college. During my college years, I wondered occasionally why people have to go to college for. I examined myself by asking me Qs like, “Am I in college to become more enriched, knowledgeable, refined person? Am I in college just to get that recognition and respect that I am a college grad.? Or Am in college just to get a better-paying, more decent job after getting my degree? Or is it a combination of all things?”

At this point, I am still not sure what the answers are to those Qs. Can anyone enlighten me on what the real incentive should be for going to college?

Thanks in advance for any insights.

I went to college to learn. I chose classes that were interesting to me and inspired me. I met other students and professor that I was able to have great conversations with. It made me look at the world I live in more intensely, and consider my choices in life with a broader view of things.

Perhaps if you still have questions, your major was something you were not passionate about?

For college to be a worthwhile thing for you, it needs to be based in your interests, not just the goal of getting a job. You study what inspires you, then look for a job that fits it. I think most people are happier doing that rather than majoring in something just because they’ll get a well-paying job. Those people end up at 30 years old unhappy and going back to school for something more worthwhile.

Your college experience is what you choose to make it.

I really think that the main reason to go to college is to be educated, knowledgeable, more enriched, mature and open your eyes to the world around you. In the US, many young people are so ethnocentric and know nothing about the world until they go to college and expand their learning. Along with that will come the respect from society. As far as the money and job, I truly feel that is secondary and should not be the main motive – if that is your motive then go to a trade or tech school. If you want both you need to have an idea of what you want to do and focus your studies to get there. For example, those who are very motivated and intent on a particular career, such as medicine or law, because college will get you there.

One incentive for going to college is to be upwardly mobile. Many people aspire to move up in status and have a better quality of life. It is instinctive to want to do this as one’s offspring will have better opportunities. Only a small percentage of the world’s population has an education. Those of us who have access to ICT are very privileged. Therefore recognition and skills are worthwhile. You will find that as you progress through life, you will draw on all of your experiences. Progression in the Western world relies heavily on academic background and evidence of intellectual attainment. However, certificates and grades are only a snapshot of how well you can do something. I suggest that you go out into the real world, work hard, travel, learn practical and communicative skills and discover what’s out there. One thing you don’t need to have in order to make progress in life, is points on yahoo answers. Get a passport, shut down your computer and go out. There is a big wide world out there, waiting to benefit from your skills and knowledge.

no longer each and every man or woman who needs to connect the militia is doing it for college. i’ve got seen quite a few people who have been frequently used right into a reliable college and that they chosen to connect the militia somewhat. yet while your situation surely handed off then they could additionally carry forth coaching as an benefit. in case you’re taking 2 human beings making use of for a job and that they the two have the same diploma yet one has years of journey at the same time as the different purely graduated final month the corporation is probable going to %. the single with the journey. a diploma on my own isn’t sufficient in at present’s job industry. additionally, if college and job journey would not paintings the militia can carry forth exhilaration and repair to u . s . (which they already do besides). ultimately, if that would not paintings the militia can purely petition Congress and the President to reinstate the draft. the militia is going to get their numbers one way or yet another.

to get a better-paying, more decent job after getting the degree. some people say its to have a rewarding life experience. i think reality went past them. my thing about rewarding life experience is that their free. some care about prestige, but prestige is not really a concern of mine. To most people it would be the combination of all things since thats what college means but to me its just a way to get a better paying job when I graduate. decide what it means to you.
