in desperate need of motivation, but i feel so low..?

i guessed the answers on my math placement tests because i don’t retain math info properly, even though i took advanced math courses in high school, so i ended up in intermediate algebra college level and i feel so low. i secretly envy most of my friends since they actually know their stuff and have gone onto college calc.

i’m in a slump and i don’t know how to pull myself out of it. my study habits are so bad and i’m too lazy to do my work. i’m in a comm. college because my parents are paying for my studies so i want to help them save money.

i’m generally interested in my subjects, but i have no major. i’m just seriously unmotivated.. i don’t know what to do to wake me up!

pleaseeee help

One thing that helped me out when I was in a slump was hosting outside-the-classroom study groups with people in my classes. This helped me be accountable for my homework and studies, as well as develop friendships as well. Another suggestion is to have time management, so that you can allocate a set amount of time to your studies without interruption.

In all honesty, it all really depends on what you would like your major to be. Taking Calculus is only requred for most sciences, engineering, and medical fields, but other majors need only basic courses of math to fulfill the requirements (such as business, English, Psych, etc.). Finding what major you would like is more of a discovery/process than anything else, but don’t feel as though you need to take math to be successful in college. I can vouch to say that your friends will probably go in their own separate paths as well, whatever fits them most.

I placed in Basic Arithmetic Skills. I’m doing addition, subtraction, multiplication and division right now.Moving up to fractions next week.

Even though i stunk at math in high school. I wish I was in a higher class but I just look at is I need to do this, I have to do this.

The class is boring, but I’m using it to learn those things like study skills. I’m using it less for the benefit of the math and more for the benefit of the experience. This was my first traditional class and its been neat to see how this work, and to help myself set up schedules, and study times.

The knowledge you are gaining in this lower level class is going to help you in your high level classes so much. Stick it out and be strong, it will be a great benefit to you!

Pick a technical major so you will never have to go back to school due to lack of finding a decent job! Just be happy you aren’t in a four year school that takes longer and is harder. That should be your motivation…getting out fast and getting out for good.
