Generally a psychology major beings with basic calculus, biology, anthropology, and statistics. You should check out the requirements for psychology in the particular school that you plan on transferring to.

If you are trying to transfer to a University/College with community college credits, first plan which university you wish to attend. Once you have an idea, go to the university websites and try to obtain a check sheet that lists what prerequisites or degree support credits you will need. DO NOT attempt to take psychology classes at the Community college unless you have been guaranteed by the choice university’s enrollment that those credits will transfer.

You will save much more time and money by simply taking the prerequisite courses, such as basic English/math/history/etc., and boosting to a good GPA as opposed to trying to accomplish a degree at the community college.

IF you are seriously interested in a Psych degree, get into a university, and meet a professor whom you may do research under. Research will tell you early on if you will truly enjoy the field and have the desire to complete the more boring parts of the degree, like statistics.

You first need to verify what courses are in your major. Psychology has different facets (child, marriage, family….) so make sure you know in what area(s) you want to specialize. Next, look at all the general education or lower-division core classes are required by the university, and take as much as you can while at the community college, because it’s less expensive. Once you have exhausted everything at the community level, you should have less troubles in the upper division stuff, and be able to better focus on your major courses. You can also attend summer school classes to get ahead if possible.

You don’t mention if you work, so that is also a factor. Don’t burn out by doing a full time job and full time classes. You’ll never get anywhere, and then you will be the one who needs a psychologist. Good luck.

Just find the 4 year institutions that you want to go to. They have a lot of this information on their sites.

Just find the admissions page and the transfer students. They will direct you a course equivalence page. If you community college is not listed, then they will have to figure it out for you.

I would say most of your intro. courses out of the way. At 4 year colleges, their algebra and calculus courses are tougher because the more likely have engineering or physical science programs. So, take those if you can.

Yo cookie,

First of all dont worry.

What you need to do, is get in touch with your community college – Yes you need to: ” call ” them or if your not keen on that,

” mail ” the head of the psychology department in your college.

and ask them a few questions

Real simple-

something like this-

Hi, I’m interested in majoring in psychology, can you tell me what are the basic admission requirements into this degree and what subjects I need to take, and the Grade level required.

done.

Whoever is on the phone or whoever writes back is getting paid to help you, so take the advantage kid! I propose if your questions are more in depth, then write down all your queries on a piece of paper and then make them answer all your questions at once.

If you have more doubts, call them again, sort of thing.

The point is, psychology is a broad subject, there are many different types of majors, after calling them, or visiting their site [thats an option too by the way] – you can find out more about the degree.

Good luck!

Rave

Mail me if you have more questions- adious.

I can’t tell you what specific courses to take, but make sure that the one you do take will transfer to the 4 year school. Not all credits will transfer and it would suck to have to repeat a class.

You need to check with the UC. The registrar’s office typically will tell you whether or not a core course will transfer. If it is a course for your major you will have to speak with the department head.
