If you want to be in the business of gemology then a Bachelor’s in business coupled with certification from GIA would be a good choice.

If you want to be in the design end then a Bachelor’s in art is your choice. And, for the science side – it’s geology.

geology…so you will know what rocks you are looking at, and where they can be located…then if you are wanting to learn to cut gems, you may need to apprentice under a jewler.
