I went to Devry University and I make 70k, why does everybody rip that school??

I graduated from devry with a bachelors in Computer Information Systems in 2005. Everyone says you’ll graduate there and get paid $12 an hour, Why? I know as much as the next guy when it comes to Networking and security, so I get paid well. It wasn’t a waste of time at all, the only gripe I have is that financial aid is run by students and thus is a joke/pain in my a**. It’s not Harvard but it gets you a job with ROOM FOR ADVANCEMENT. Anyone can advance as long as you are not a complete moron……..

Anyways, Why does everybody rip a school that is good??

Because it is.

Hey, good for you. I agree. It’s not where you get the degree from, it’s what you do with it. How you use it to enhance your natural intelligence and drive. Bill Gates dropped out of Harvard, remember?

We have at least one DeVry Institute employee in the IT department at work (security as well) and you know what? He’s excellent. He was promoted from employee to contractor in 3 months and now earns at least $110k.

I don’t rip your school. Bravo to you for having the moxy and guts to excel. And to hell with what anyone else says.

Congrats…you were one of the lucky ones. The reason why people say you graduate from there and get paid $12 an hour is because that is what most grads get.

The problem with Devry is its accreditation. Just say you want to further your education and get a Masters degree from a 4 year university, you would not qualify and they would not recognize your bachelor’s degree.

Because they don’t know any better. Online schools in general get a bad rap on this site, but their students are still getting jobs, and maybe that’s the rub–jealousy. People always like to think that they are better than someone else, it boosts their own egos, and having a degree from a traditional college vs. an online school is just another reason for them to look down their noses at a whole section of society, and if they can convince employers that online schools are trash, that eliminates some of their toughest competitors, because for the most part, students who complete online degrees are more creative, hardworking, independent, and responsible than students who have to go to a classroom every day and have a teacher baby-sit them and tell them when to study and what to study. I am currently attending Excelsior College online for my Masters, and think it’s great. Congratulations on your job, and good luck in the future!

Devry was founded as a technical institution so peoples complaints are not usually directed toward people with technical degrees.

from my experience, thee school you go to has nothing to do with how much you learn.

however, big school has too advantages, one is they have a higher concentration of intelligent students and so the chance to find a good student is higher among these students. The second is, as a result of the first, employers will consider these schools graduates more than other university.

Because you pay A LOT of money and many times people only get jobs because they are lucky or know someone in the field. If you made 70k great!!!
