I want to go back to school but….?

I really love computers and have always been good with them, I went to Computer Learning Center in Chicago and got straight A’s there. But it wasnt an accredited College. I want to go back to a real college but my boyfriend isnt encouraging me but discouraging about how much money its going to be. I really want to get my degree in Computer Information Systems. I know its going to be hard but do you think I will have a good future in that field, honestly? Is this a good field to get into?

So, if you plan to go to an accredited college, you need to be properly prepared so you don’t end up crashing the program but being sattled with debt.

First, you need to teach yourself algebra from a well written text, nothing from highschool as those texts leave out things so as ‘to leave something for the teacher to teach’. There are alot of badly written math texts, try getting a used text that is well written, Mark Dugopolski wrote a good one.

Second, you need to check if the school you plan to go to requires a foreign language, many have now included this as a requirement. If so, prepare for it, otherwise you will be put in a class with a bunch of freshmen that had 4 years of it in highschool, and that would be tough. Spanish has commerical value in the US, a good free website to learn Spanish is :

Third: Brush up on English Grammer, a high school text is usually good enough.

Forth: File a FAFSA record online, and when doing so, say you want federal work study. That is where you usually just sit around in a library or computer lab making sure no one walks away with the inventory, while you can mostly study.

The lower your income the more federal and state aid you can get, provided you do not have a drug conviction.

Now as to the job market, I do not know. I do know that most colleges do not care if you find a job or not, they just want you to get in debt paying for their services. So, buyer beware!

Have you programmed in Java and HTML, if not you can learn that on your own before getting to college.

The big thing now is knowing about Databases using an SQL language.

truthfully, with grants and student loans, my money situation is easier than before i went to school. i take out extra to offset the amount of time i won’t be working (down to 3 days a week, instead of 5). i’ll have student loans over my head, but they aren’t due til you graduate, and some are subsidized – gov’t pays the interest on these!! as for computers, the farther you go the better the pay gets. there are tons of ppl with mediocre computer degrees, but not so many that really really know their stuff. if you’ve already taken a few classes that didn’t transfer, you could possibly talk to the school about clep-ing out of these. as for your boyfriend discouraging you- is it your life of his? don’t let others make important life decisions for you. more incredibly intelligent woman are kept down by their hearts than we’ll ever know.

Where I’m from public schooling isn’t very well so for those who desire a well schooling you must attend to a personal one. But this particularly relies, a few public colleges are very well and a few are very dangerous, simply as a few personal colleges are very well and others very dangerous.

It’s always going to be hard. It’s always going to expensive and time consuming. But is it probably worth it? Yeah. Besides, you may not always have the boyfriend, but you’ll always have the degree.
