I’m taking up a machining trade course now, but I can’t see myself doing this for the rest of my life. I will have completed this course in December and I have a 3.8GPA.

The Military.

That’s where most of pilots WHO DO IT FOR A LIVING get their training. You can go get private lessons and get your license if you want to, but all that will get you is the ability to fly as a hobby.

But if you want to get paid to be a pilot for a commercial airline or private company or whatever, then you need to go into the military or go to a professional pilot’s school. That’s the only place you can get the kind of experience and training on different kinds of aircraft that will make you hire-able.

There are ways other than the military. Private companies do train, but it’s highly competitive. Please read the articles at the links below to see how.

Of course, becoming a pilot in the Air Force or Navy is highly competitive too. Everyone wants to do it, and just because you go into the military doesn’t guarantee they’ll send you to flight school. It’s VERY competitive.

I suggest you call or go talk to an Air Force or Navy recruiter (they’re in your local yellow pages. They have local offices everywhere) Ask what your chances are of becoming a pilot.

Best part of going the military route is that they pay for your training. (Which is very expensive.) You’ll have to commit to a certain number of years. But when you get out, you’ll be set for life.

But keep in mind, that you would be signing up to serve your country. So don’t do it JUST to become a pilot. Do it because you want to serve your country by being a pilot.

Again, go talk to a recruiter. It won’t hurt to just ask questions.

Let me know how it goes.

Please Read the articles below. I think you’ll find them helpful. Trust me. If you’re really serious about this, then you need to do lots of research, and the links below are a place to start.

If you think it’s something you might like, go take a flight lesson. Your first lesson is typically under $200 and you will learn alot about aircraft and in my case, I even got to taxi and take off from a major metropolitan airport, on my FIRST LESSON!

If you live near any airports check your local yellow pages for “aircraft instruction” or do a yahoo search for aircraft instruction and the name of the nearest large city. “learn to fly” will also yield some good search results.

I love it. I wish I had more time and money to pursue it.

Good luck, God Bless.
