I want to be a vet. I live in Cleveland. What college is better, Texas A&M or Ohio State University?

Is OSU as good as Texas A&M? Which is better? I’m going into 8th grade. I get top grades in everything, & parents are thinking of giving me ACT & SAT prep classes to boost score so I can get a schollarship. I was thinking of going to get an undergraduate degree in Cleveland, and going to Texas A&M, but my parents want me to go to OSU because it’s closer to home. I want to know if Texas A&M is a better school, so I can be a really good vet. Also, ideas about what to major in would help.

NOTE: I am not squeamish in any way and love to help animals, and it wouldn’t bother me if I have to put an animal down, so veterinary work is perfect. Don’t go ranting on about having to put animals to sleep, having thick skin, ect.

I am from Texas so I can tell you from personal knowledge that Texas A&M is a phenomenal vet school and it prepares you very well. In Texas, you know your vet is bada$$ if his degree says Texas A&M on it. That being said, let’s look at where you are. You live in Ohio and so, you’d be paying in state tutition. If you came down here, you’d have to pay non-resident tuition. This can be VERY expensive. I found this out for you:

Ohio state academic year tuition: $8,667 (in state resident)

Texas A&M non-resident tuition 1 year: $15,675

So, if the schools are both pretty much the top vet schools, consider the one in your state first…you are obviously saving quite a bit of cash…and trust me….I’m paying back student loans now and that 9,000 difference MATTERS.

Recommend that you think about what you want to specialize in — small animals? birds? large animal? exotics? race horses?

Then check the course catalogs for both schools and pick the one that you think offers the best curriculum for what you want to do.

If you change your mind about your specialty, you can always transfer to the other school or a different one altogether.

I’m not sure exactly how it works these days, but if you live in Ohio and you decide to go to Texas A&M (home of the origins of Wonder Warthog!), you may have to establish residency to avoid paying out-of-state tuition (mucho higher). Of course, if you get scholarships that probably won’t matter.

Good luck and don’t quit!

properly, Illinois and Michigan are the two good blue states, and Ohio is easy blue — so which you do not have plenty determination. My advice could be to pass to the main suitable college you will get primary to. U Mich is between the main suitable faculties interior the country; Ohio State is far up there too. Loyola isn’t even interior the comparable league as the two of them.
