If, in the long term you want to be a Vet, and are starting at a community or junior college, your first step at your CC is to keep it general. If there is a school that you hope to transfer to to earn your BA or BS degree, ask them what transfer degree they accept. At your CC, work towards that. Also ask for an equivalency guide so you will know how/if your credits will transfer from the CC to the university.

Vet schools don’t necessarily care about your specific major, they are more concerned with what specific courses your have taken (they all have pre-requisites that they require for you to study at their schools). Try to focus your coursework on those classes (usually in Biology, Chemistry and the like) and a specific major will make itself aparent to you.

When all else fails, as a faculty advisor from the Biology department for help, or a professor on the “Health Sciences Committee” (every four year university should have one).

Good Luck!

Biology is a science major because it is a life science. Social science like Psychology, or sociology, political science they are not science majors but your save with a major in biology.

However, Only major in biology if you want to. Now days medical schools look for well rounded people and you can major in anything you like. As long as your GPA and MCAT Score is good you would get in to vet college. There are only 8 vet colleges in USA though so make sure you study study study even if that means not majoring in biology to keep your GPA up. I know people in medical schools who majored in political science, Health and nutrition and even one sociology major and every one know that sociology is a total jock major now days!

Good Luck.

The answers to these questions vary from school to school. You should take advantage of the resources made available to you by your community college and your 4-year college of interest by calling in with your questions. There is typically an office of student affairs, or a registrar’s office, and it is their job to help you understand various programs and transfer procedures.
