I need help writing a personal statement for college. I have no idea how to approcah it.?

The question says: Please describe personal expericences which have affected your educational performance. The reason I am stuck is becuase I don’t want it to sound as if I am making excuses. I know that I can make it about a happy experience not negative, but I don’t know how to start.

Some info:

I have one D on my transcript in AP geography which I took in my 10th grade year

I have a 3.9 GPA, and am #20 in a class of 260.

I am adopted

My parents got divorced when I was in high school

I had to help one of my closet friends b/c she was on the verge of failing. Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you.

Personal Statements of Experience are basically like resumes, especially in the way that almost everyone finds a way to bend the truth.

If you have to describe things that have affected your academic performance, this actually is your time to make excuses and let them know how much you have overcome to be in the position you are today.

First of all, I’m pretty sure that AP credits don’t actually show up on your high school transcript (as they are done through the College Board). This means that most universities and colleges won’t really care if that mark is significantly lower than your others (especially if you have a 3.9GPA and that AP mark happened a few years ago).

Mention your family situation, as emotional stress is often one of the things they are looking for in applicants as it suggests that they are able to overcome many things and would do the same in post-secondary.

Your friend that you helped is also a good thing to mention. It shows your compassion to your classmates and your ability to tutor/assist them with course work. Many universities/colleges actually have special tutor programs for people with this skill to gain extra credit.

You can also think of things that have positively affected your academic performance, such as special teachers, courses you liked, etc… as motivational aspects of your education.

Overall, I wish you the best of luck while writing your PSE and during your college experience.

Hope this helps! 🙂

In general, you want to answer honestly while trying to communicate three points about yourself:

1. You are a goal-oriented individual, your goals are reasonable, and you expect to achieve them with hard work and reasonable opportunity.

2. You are altruistic–you view your goal in life not only as pursuing a career that’s personally prosperous, but also as a way to fulfill an important role in society, a way to serve others, to pull your weight for humankind.

3. You have an “attitude of gratitude”, recognizing and thanking those who’ve helped you.

With that perspective guiding you, you should feel free to select from all your educational experiences and come up with a few that support those points. I can’t tell you how to do that precisely, you must write in your own words whatever’s true for you–but let me hypothesize a little–

Did that AP geography teacher, when assigning the D that you earned, infuse you with a sense of responsibility and a renewed commitment to hard work? Leading to your solid GPA and high class ranking overall?

Are you grateful to your parents for adopting you and giving you the support they could, even though their marriage failed?

When helping your friend avoid failure, did you learn that you are fulfilled by helping others and so that’s why you chose to pursue an education so that you could enter the career of (fill in your future career where you help other people)?

Those are the sorts of angles you should take.

you may placed in writing approximately your motivation for going to college, what inspired your determination? then you definately could communicate approximately existence stories. have you ever carried out any volunteering? Raised funds for charity? Taken a direction? Joined a club? Play activities? examine any interesting books different than for college books? Do you have a functionality type? Then describe how those stories have helped to strengthen you as a man or woman and why they are clever for college. as an occasion you may say that winding up a backed run for many cancers has helped you to be compassionate for others and it has better your motivation in direction of exercising and wellness. good success!

I would say be as honest as possible when answering the question. I personally don’t think that you have to explain the D n your transcripts because your other grades reflect that you are a serious student. If you can try and talk with some one at the school your applying to and ask them what actually they want in a personal statement.

#1) Learn to spell. There are 6 errors.

#2) Learn English grammar. Punctuation errrors all over.

You must attend a special education school for you to be ranked 20 out of 260.
