I have a MAJOR problem!?

Please give me any advice or experience you can. I just talked to my advisor for the 2nd time, still I am lost. I love english and am really good at it. Chemistry, very poor at it. I am a good student in all other subjects and I am really in need right now. Knowing my strengths and weaknesses, I see I am a writing/reading/politics-loving/people person. I do want to have some science in my schedule to go into medical school or have some back up for going. What should I major in? And if I do absolutely bad in chemistry if I am forced to take it, what direction can I go into? Any advice is taken with greatfulness.

Thank you

From just what you said, I think you might enjoy a major in English and a minor in Political Science. The two go together well!

If you like English or Political Science, you should major in one of those. I don’t know what year you are, but if your dream is to be a doctor, you should also at least take one chemistry course. If you do badly in that course (and it wasn’t for a reason like the instructor decided that there should be no A’s and B’s in the class), then you shouldn’t continue taking chemistry. Of course that will mean that you won’t be able to become a doctor if you quit taking chemistry, but you probably won’t be able to become a doctor if you get bad grades in chemistry. You’ll find some career, regardless.

But really, how much do you want to be a doctor?

I don’t understand. You describe yourself as a ‘writing/reading/politics/-lovin person,’ but you want to go to med school? Well, I don’t know what year you’re in. I’ll guess it’s first year. Try starting with an honors science course. If that’s ok, then take ap after that. You shouldn’t be worried about your major yet. I’m going to be a freshman in college, and I have no idea what I’m majoring in. Just figure out what you’re good at and what you like.

According to the AAMC, 1 year of each of the follow courses MUST be taken no matter what your major is:

Biology, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics, and 1 semester of Calculus and English.

If you hate chemistry, you better learn to love it. Biochemistry would be a big plus also.

Haha. I like the way you put your question. MAJOR problem.. =]

I’d choose anything with literature. =) Like the people above said, political science and english go well together. You’ll be learning some philosophy in those courses too.

You can major in what ever you want to major in. With your elective classes just make sure you take science classes so that you have those under your belt as well.

If you really enjoy English then you should major in it; however, you are able to keep your option open as well until you decide for sure.
