Are you only book smart? It seems all this learning, digesting, and regurgitating of facts and figures you have been beaten to systematically do has made you lose your own identity. You can’t even make your own decisions. Do you see what all this work is doing to you? Get your head out of a book, start thinking outside the box, and starting thinking and living for yourself. This is your life. It’s alright to seek advice, but learn to find it in the right places. Go talk to someone face-to-face instead of taking the lazy and unsafe alternative route of asking a bunch of anonymous people on the Internet. Trust me, though this may all sound harsh now, knowing all this will help you immensely.

1) Stop right now.

2) Breathe. This important, I think you forgot to do it while you were typing all that.

3) Breathing now? Good. It sounds like you’ve really been pushing yourself. Now, look at all the stuff you’re doing and what you want to do. you may need to make a list from the sounds of things.

4) More than likely, you’re not going to be able to do all the stuff you just listed without giving yourself an aneurysm. So, what do you want to do most? We’ll look at the stuff you listed. I’m seeing two AP history classes and an interest in track, as well as a larger goal of going into the medical field at a good school. oh, and this ib program, whatever that is.

5) History first. Euro and US are going to be completely unrelated. It’s possible you won’t even need that much history at the college you attend. Save yourself some trouble and only take one as an AP (unless you really love history).

6) How many credits do you need to graduate high school, anyway? 80 seems like a lot. If you’ve met the appropriate requirements, go talk to your counselor NOW–you may be able to save yourself all of this stress.

7) Okay, now track. Do you love track? Will you forever regret not doing track in high school? Or do you just think it’s cool, and will look good on your college applications? If it’s the latter, don’t do it, the extra time commitment will only stress you out more.

8) Medical career/ good college…. Focus on math and science classes for this one. Keep your grades up. With extracurricular angle, most schools are just looking to see if you have some sort of social skills or time management. Keep it easy. (My senior year I was president of Mu Alpha Theta, which was inactive that year.)

9) The IB program. I have no idea what this is, so I can’t offer any advice. Talk to your folks, let them know what’s going on and how you feel about it. (Which, by the way, you should do before going with any of my suggestions.)
