I got marked off for this on a paper….what is the correct way?

After getting off the phone I made myself a mug of hot chocolate and sat on the comfortable, oversized couch, which sat in our living room.

I got marked off on a paper for the use of the comma after couch. Should a semi-colon be put there instead or nothing at all?

There should not be any punctuation marks after the word couch.

The comma defiantly does not belong after couch!

I ran your sentence through my Microsoft Word spell/language check without the coma after couch. The program instructed me to place a comma there. I would have left it out. It’s always best to have a book on grammar as a back up.

I usually place a comma after an introductory phrase, also, to separate two or more adjectives that equally modify the same noun.

Remove the word “myself” as it appears to be excessive use of first person.

The words “which sat” are unnecessary unless your storyline contains floating furniture.

Example: After getting off the phone, I made a mug of hot chocolate and sat on the comfortable, oversized couch in our living room.
