My husband is a civil engineer and he works for a company called Kimley Horn and Associates. They hired him when he was 23, and have hired people younger than that with engineering degrees. They are very interested in long term employees and do lots of seminars and training sessions (all over the country) for career advancement. The pay is great, and last year they were voted the #1 Civil Engineering firm to work for in America.

Here is the web site:

They have offices all over the US, so if you’re interested in moving around, they do that as well. They also let their engineers do “shift work” – which means you can go to another office in another part of the country and work with them for a few weeks to see if you like it out there.

They require a 48 hour work week – and usually you end up working more than that, but the pay makes up for it, and the benefits do as well. And honestly – you’ll be working that much at almost any engineering firm, unless you work for a city or county. So you might as well find a firm that makes it worth it.

Good luck.
