I am a high school graduate and would like to get a degree.?

My question is, can I get a degree with no knowledge of algebra? I’ve been out of school for over 25 years. It was not required when I graduated.

Depending on what type of degree you want, you may have to take math classes. If you want a specialized, technical associates degree you may not have to, but most 4 year universities will require math as a general education requirement, however many have remedial programs that you could take.

you may be able to get an online or associate’s degree, but you won’t be able to get into a 4 yr degree without having an understanding of algebra and geometry. The best path for you to take sounds like going to a local junior college or community college and you can take the developement math courses while you take the classes that will count towards your associate’s degree. I would schedule an advising appointment with the 4yr school you have your eye on and find out what classes transfer, don’t trust the 2yr school, this will save you wasted time and money.

You can get a degree with no knowledge of algebra, many change of career middle aged students are headed back to college in droves. One alternative is to go to a liberal arts college where you will have 2 or 1 math courses, that may or may not be algebra. Another thing to consider is that you may do just fine in algebra and pass with a C. Lastly there are prealgebra college courses you can take as a refresher before you take the actual college level agebra course.

Take some courses in algebra.. at some schools there are classes before the intro classes that are for people who don’t know anything about algebra. They usually aren’t worth any credit but they are worth it.

It depends what kind of degree you want because some degrees only requires 2 math classes and those are the easiest to pass.

When you go to a college to get started they will give you various entrance tests since you have been out of school for so long. Where you rank on the math, science, and English tests will determine what kind of classes you are recommended to take. They offer everything from basic math on up in college so don’t be afraid that they don’t offer math classes that would be good for your past experience. Good luck and kudos for going back to school!

College requires liberal art credits, but you can take a programming or other “language” course to get away from algebra. It isn’t that scary of a subject and maybe finite math is better for you.
