How to get a job in a field unrelated to Master’s degree?
I’ve got a Master’s degree in a profession that I don’t intend to stay in. I have heard many people say that a Master’s degree–in any subject–can open doors to better, higher level jobs in unrelated professions.
In your experience, is this true? How does one pursue a completely different profession than what he or she studied? How would you justify to employers why you pursued the degree you did and why they should hire you and pay you more to do something completely different?

It would help if you listed a specific profession here, what you got a degree in and what you want to do.
However, my best suggestion is to start with an internship in the field that you want to go in. Your master’s degree shows that you have ambition, but the internship will give you practical experience in your chosen field.
Good luck!

I have a Masters degree in Botany but I found when I needed to find a job so I could pay rent, eat and such things, those doing the hiring were hesitant as they seemed to feel with a Masters degree I wouldn’t stay with them very long but would always be seeking a better job in my field. I’m still not really using my degree in the fullest sense – I’m a para-educator in special ed at the elementary school level. I use my education in all that I do in that my education shaped who I am , what I know and how I interact with others. I am also serving a the director of resort ministries in my part of the world, so I am using my other Masters degree, albeit as a volunteer. (Masters in Religious Ed.)

I think it really depends on what you want to do. But if you have a masters that can pretty much translate into you have the ability to learn any job that you want to do. So just put yourself out there and see what comes up.
