How to apply for a PhD position in USA?

I’m recently completed an MSc. in physics in the UK and would love to continue researching physics. However, i’ve looked at a few university websites and found very little information regarding how to apply to do a PhD at an american university, for instance, information about funding etc.

Does anyone know where I should be looking?

Funding won’t be a problem. If a physics department admits you, it will be with full funding.

You can go to PhDs.org to get an idea of the overall quality of research at various places, although some of the information there is very outdated. Better might be to ask some of your MSc professors for advice about where they do good research in areas that interest you.

Many US universities collect graduate applications through a central admissions office, even though the decisions about whom to admit are done in the departments. Check the web site for the university’s graduate school if the department web site doesn’t tell you what you’re looking for. If you’re still lost, email the department secretary, whose email address should be on the staff list.

You should be looking on the Internet. Search for universities with science programs, for example, “Physics, PhD” then write to them asking for information you want. Good schools include MIT, Cal Tech, Stanford, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, and many others.
