A CNA is NOT a nurse.

Generally there are LPN/LVN’s they have a one year ed program. Must take and pass a test, and get 2/3-3/4 of what a RN does.

RN is a 2 year or 4 year degree-

Then there are specialty nurses – NP- nurse practitioner- CNM- certified nurse midwife, and CRNA anestitists. They earn a fairly good salary and some can practice on their own.

CNA–certified nursing assistant. Basically they do all the nasty jobs like cleaning up vomit and stuff.

LPN–Licensed practical nurse. The next step up, requires more schooling, has more responsibilities and make more money than CNA.

RN–Registered nurse. They have the potential to become the “boss” of the other nurses. They make the most money.

Obviously, shoot for RN. I believe this takes a 4 year degree.

There are hundreds of specialities. The most difference lies in training and the paycheck.

My dad is a nurse anesthestist. He makes $117K/year as cheif CRNA.

My aunt is a labor and delivery nurse. She makes closer to $75K/year.
