Most classes are 3 units each, so 12 would be four classes, and yeah, 12 units is the definition of a fulltime student. Most, but not all, health insurers require kids older than 18 to be full time students to take advantage of their parent’s health plan.

There are some classes that are worth more credits, but they usually have a lab component to them. The most I’ve ever even heard of a class being worth is five. There are also some 1&2 credit classes, but they are usually just a lecture a week and don’t require much effort.

depends. Classes can be 1, 3, 4 or 5 units. If you are going medical, then the classes you will require will most likely be mainly 5 units, because they are demanding. If you are going to a college you will need 60 units to transfer to a university, and at a university, you will need to take as many units as required to finish your major. Usually, to get up to a medical degree, it takes you 10-12 years, unless you want to be a dentist. So ultimately, 12 units could be from 4 – 3 classes lasting that many hours as specified by the unit.

12 hours, it’s called in the US.

Generally most undergrad, freshman and sophomore level courses are 3 hours each. So usually 4.
