Because they are knowledgeable and proficient in their subject area – teacher education was created to set a standard for Elementary, Middle and High School teachers and be able to hold them accountable to set standards and practices. That is not the case at the college level – In college it is far more important to impart knowledge than necessarily how that knowledge is passed on. I do not see a real concern here as long as the professor knows their subject area and is teaching it.

In college, a professor is responsible for teaching adults – presumably motivated adults since they are paying to be there. Teacher in the K-12 students are not adults and have very different learning styles and development needs. Teachers in the K-12 settings are responsible for teaching ALL students whether it be a child who’s been in this country for two days with mental retardation or a child who’s 9 years old and taking high school math courses. Professors don’t worry about those sorts of things they are not bound by federal law to accomodate mental deficits in any way….hence the reason you apply to college and show up at a K-12 school.

People with a Masters are expected to have a well rounded knowledge of the subject of their major including independent studies.

They also get to teach undergradautes under the auspices of the school in their last year.

Well, they are expected to be ‘masters’ in their field. How well the content is delivered, however, can be hit-or-miss.

If your instructor is having difficulties on delivery, you could always raise a complaint. New instructors are usually observed…
