When I was a teenager, many, many years ago, I always tried to pick out things I thought I would like. I would get assigned reading lists, and would try to pick out things I thought I would like. Sometimes they were hits, sometimes misses. I do not know what is on your reading list, but a lot of times they were classics that I thought at least okay to read. Books I actually enjoyed while in high school are: Catcher in the Rye, Deliverance, 1984, Brave New World, Canterbury Tales, a lot of John Steinbeck novels. I guess all I can suggest is to go into classics like these with a very open mind – you might like them. Some of these for even my time weren’t relevant to me, but I still liked them.

The brain loves challenges….and is most likely to pay attention if you give it something to look for. So, with that in mind, I would suggest that before you sit down to read you make a list of questions to answer. Generate questions by skimming the chapters subheadings. Then read to answer the questions you’ve created.

when u say that you despise studying your mind is listening and doing what it hears….you have to be focused and get a good mind set before you begin to study…just tell yourself that it will pay off in the end..and also remind yourself that as long as you are on earth…reading is inevitable…good luck

When it comes to reading you should find something that interest you and read books that pretain to that subject. In all classes you are required to read things that you will find boring and believe me it doesn’t end after high school. you might try reading out loud to yourself and tape it then listen to it again later on.

Convince yourself that what you are reading is very interesting and that should change your though process
