Honestly…Do you think I can get in?

I’m trying to get into Cornell, but I only have a 3.6 GPA.

And my SAT score is 2250, but I’ll be retaking it.

Extracurriculars:

Ecology club, debate team (won a few tournaments), NHS, part of school ambassadors, dancer for 8 years, and singing for 3 years.

volunteering:

I’ve been volunteering at a hospital for 3 years every week, and made 300+ hours. (from other places too)

I organized two charity drives which made over a $1000.

I also organized a dance program for children, and taught them dance which raised $300.

I was an intern at NIH, and was in a biotech summer camp.

Awards:

I was a finalist for a vocab bee twice, and won a singing competition once.

If I can’t get into Cornell, what about Carnegie Mellon?

There are certainly no definites, but you seem in the range of what Cornell would be looking for. It may depend somewhat on whether that 3.6 is based on AP/Honors classes, or “regular” classes. The SAT score is good, though. What about SAT Subject Tests? Anyway, if you’re SURE you want Cornell, think about early decision (assuming they haven’t gotten rid of it) as it would boost your chances somewhat. Go visit the school, too, if you can. If not Cornell, yes, I’d think Carnegie Mellon is within reach. But again, there are no guarantees. These schools all receive many, many applicants from qualified students and who’s to say how they pick the way they do?

You sound like a well-rounded student. Your GPA is a little low, but not dreadful. The fact that you have lots of activities (including charitable ones) is a plus.

By all means, retake the SAT and apply to Cornell.

Cornell? HAHAHAHAHA. I have a sister that got into Cornell who makes your application look like a choir boy. A CHOIR BOY!!!

Try a local community college.

EDIT: Ask pixie, below, what major universities she attended
