Grad School?!?

I’m receiving my bachelor’s for Communication/Print Media in 2009 – I want to start looking into grad schools, but 1. I don’t know what I want to get my masters in and 2. I don’t know which schools are good.

I’d like to do something different than the Journalism route because I heard it was a waste to get a masters in that with a bachelor’s already….

Is it ok to try something completely off the wall like psychology or business? (I picked two different ends of the spectrum just to emphasize)

I’d say it’s okay. I graduated from college last fall, and I’m applying to PhD programs in sociology. I majored in psychology, so I have looked at programs in both fields. Although I’m not too familiar with business programs, I know for sure to get into a psych or soci program you need not have majored in that discipline. You usually have to have taken statisitics and research methods, but you can take that in post bac status before you enter the program. To find out what schools are good, you can get an online subscription to US News and World Report rankings of grad programs. It ranks programs in every discipline, and it costs around $15.

I graduated from undergrad and knew i had to get a masters faster or later. i had to look ahead to awhile incredibly i did no longer understand what i had to get it in. 5 years later I easily have began grad college. i do no longer think of i could be doing the main significant i’m if no longer for a fashion my existence went after graduating. circulate once you already know. Grad college takes up particularly some time so which you’ll be waiting to learn.

I would go for a masters in education, this would qualify you to teach in public schools, it would be a straightforward degree for someone without a background in education, and also it would line you up for a PhD program. Really, without experience or education in a given field you would have a tough time leaping into a graduate level program for that discipline.

Definitely look at Grad School. Boulder and Hollins both have really good journalism programs..I know people who have graduated from both and loved it!

Good luck
