I went to Gtown and my brother went to GW – so I can tell you these are very very different schools.

– Georgetown is generally accepted to be the better school academically.

– Students at the 2 schools are very different. G-town tends to be stuffier and more formal in general – the students at GW are a bit more laid back. Other things also affect social life – GW is right in the heart of Foggy Bottom w/ easy access to the metro. Gtown has no metro stop, so it’s cabs everywhere when you want to go out. Also, Gtown has no Greek life, so keep that in mind if you’re hoping to get involved in a frat or sorority.

– Even though they’re only about a mile apart, the campuses on these two schools are extremely different. Gtown has a traditional enclosed campus w/ a lawn and a main square etc. GW is much more of a city feel with buildings just planted on city blocks and not so much of a ‘campus’. That said, GW’s facilities are beautiful – their dorms, gym, etc. are much nicer than Gtown.

Of course, I’m going to give my vote for the ‘better school’ to gtown, my own alma mater – but really, I think you need to visit both and pick the school that’s right for you. My brother and I both really loved our college experience, so I don’t think you can go too wrong here!

Whatever decision you make, enjoy!
