First Day of College??

Ok, I start college on the 21st and I cannot wait!!!

Since Im a Freshman, I dont really know what to bring to class…

Im going to a Community College and I dont want to bring my books to class because it might look too nerdy, ya know? I was just going to bring a notebook and throw some pens and pencils and my schedule book in my purse….

any suggestions or advice about starting college (not just on what to bring)

Depending on the class, you probably won’t need your books, but you might want to bring them just in case. Better safe than sorry – once you get a sense of the professor and the class requirements you’ll be able to figure out if you need the books or not.

Don’t worry, no one will think it’s nerdy – college students don’t obsess or judge anywhere near as quickly as high school students do.

You’re in college, bring your books. By the end of the first week you’ll know if you actually need to bring them or not. Definitely bring a notebook (I use spirals) and pens and pencils. Depending on the class just take what you need. You’ll know after a class or two what you really need.

When it comes to college you need to budget your time. There is play time, but there should be some work time too if you want to do well. College is not High School Part II or thirteenth grade. Some classes are easier than others. It helps to talk to upperclassmen to find out who the best professors are and try to go to some activities (not talking parties here). Get involved with some groups or campus organizations that suit your likes. Even if you don’t like them in the end, you never know. It’s a good way to meet people. While I was nervous about meeting new people I found that it was actually pretty easy.

Also, a lot of credit card companies try to get college students to get a bunch of new credit cards. I have one but only use it when I have to and can always pay off the whole balance each time I get the bill. I’ve seen a lot of people with three or more credit cards and they just heap on so much debt plus college loans that it’s just a bad situation.

BRING YOUR BOOKS!!!

I did that my first day and felt really dumb when everyone took there books out of their bags! (however I bought mine late and that’s why I did not bring them!)

This is college, not highschool… the teacher will start teaching your very first day of class… out of the book! YOu need to be ready and not worry about how you look. Just leave your books in your backpack if your really worried about it. Take them out if everyone else does.

My only other advice it to go to class!! Community College isn’t very strict on you being there (at mine we could miss 6 classes I think)… But don’t! If your sick just suck it up and go! If your really sick be sure to e-mail your teacher, they will be much more helpful that way. If you have a paper due find a way to get it up there! I’ve had to have people take papers in for me when I was really sick…. your teachers will HATE late work and some times you’ll get a 0 for it.

Take at least 12 hours! I took 9 and it took me 4 years to get my basics done! I also took a lot of extra classes! Take exactly what you need and nothing else!!! By the time i’m done it will have taken me 6 years to get a 4 year degree! Don’t make the same mistake!!

Remember no ones really watching you now… which means you could slip up… watch yourself… study… and really care about what your grades are!!

Don’t do yourself a dis-service by not bringing your book.

You wouldn’t want to look like a fool by being the only one not with a book when the teacher says, “Please refer to page number 120.”

Other then that a pen and notebook for most classes shall suffice.
