The equation of the line can be found by Y = mx + c

m is the gradient..

Formula to find the gradient is ( y2 – y1 / x2 -x1)

Gradient = -9 – (-8) / -7 – (-3) = -1 / -4 >> 1 / 4

Now take any x and y value that is either from the first brakcet or the second one

First Bracket>>>>

Y = mx + c >> – 8 = 1 / 4 * -3 + c

-8 = 1 – 12 + 4c / 4

-8 * 4 = 1 – 12 + 4c

-32 = -11 + 4c

-32 + 11 = 4c

-23 = 4c

c = -23 / 4 >> -5.75

Now put the value of c in the equation and donot put the values of x and y this time

y = mx + c

y = 1 / 4x + -5.75

Equation = y = 1/4x – 5.75

Most probably if u put the other two points in the equation u will get the right answer.!!

I agree with what the previous two people have said, but think that they miss one important part. Once you have the equation, put in the points for the point you did not choose and verify that your equation still works. If the point does not work (i.e. you get an equation that does not equal each other like 4 = 8, then you have done something wrong and must go back and see where you made a mistake.

Both points must work in the equation!!!!

m=(-9+8)/(-7+3)=1/4

y+8=1/4(x+3)

y+8=(1/4)x + 3/4

y=(1/4)x-29/4
