First off, be aware that there are PLENTY of scholarships that are not awarded based on an applicant’s GPA. There are plenty of scholarship search engines on the internet that can give you information about scholarships that are based on financial need, community service, or an essay competition. The ones I just listed are just a few types of scholarships not based on GPA. Fastweb.com is an example of one such search engine.
If you are a high school student looking to apply to college, the first stop to make is your guidance counselor’s office. That person should be able to provide you with some information about local scholarships and help you through the application process with plenty of them.
Beyond that, I would say that most GPA based scholarships will not settle for anything lower than a 3.25.

The higher the better. Full and half scholarships are very competitive. In my opinion, if getting a full scholarship is your goal, then shoot for a 4.0 GPA…and try not to let it fall below 3.8 to be considered for half scholarships. But also keep in mind many scholarships take other things into consideration such as school and community involvement, financial need, etc.
