English or Social Science degree?

I’m more interested in the classes that come with SS. I’m considering teaching, but if I don’t end up teaching, then which degree do you think would be better?

If you’re interested in teaching, you should definitely major in English, because there are more English and English-related jobs in teaching than Social Science ones. If you’re interested in doing further research, I’d do the SS degree, because it’s what interests you. If you don’t end up doing either teaching or research, say applying to a school of law or an entry level position at IBM, it doesn’t really matter. All you need is the degree, whatever courses you took.

Danceboi is totally wrong. I know 3 people with English degrees that became “useless” after college. If anything, get a minor in English or double major with something else. Engineering and science degrees are hot right now – besides the health care degrees which are of course hot. Although I don’t know what a social science degree entails, I’d put more money on that than an English degree any day.

Speaking as an English major, everything I’ve heard is that both of those majors are essentially useless, but I love English Literature. So go with what you like.
