does the name of your undergrad college and medical school determine your job outlook?
being a doctor, does it really matter what school you went to?

As far as residency, that is a bit different. Depending on the year, different specialties have varying competativeness and compensation. This varies from year to year but now the ADORE specialties (Anesthesiology, Derm, Ortho, Radiology and Emer Med) are more popular with 250k+ compensation on average and more lifestyle friendly ~50h workweeks.
Edit* I rcv’d a comment about this– to clarify Residents typically make ~40k a year, the most I have er heard of is 55k/yr for a program in rural Texas. The 250k+ that I was talking about was for the ADORE specialities– *after* residency.

The average patient won’t care nor would they understand the difference between schools.
Admission committees are aware of the difference between a BS degree from a low tiered school versus a known quality school, but in the end, they pretty much base decisions on GPA’s, essays, letters of recommendation and test scores. So a ‘name’ school in undergrad education has a marginal impact.
Every medical person knows that the medical school you attend has little significance. Every student has to learn the same information and pass the same exams. The renowned medical schools did not achieve their reputations from the medical school education, but from the research done at the schools and the quality of the researchers these programs attract. The medical education programs get to ride the coat tails of these reputations.
Now, where you do your residency training does carry importance within the medical community. But where you start your residency doesn’t necessarily mean that’s where you are going to finish your residency. For example, Johns Hopkins accepts approximately 25 students into its Internal Medicine residency program. The second year, there are only 12 positions available. That means that 13 doctors have to apply to other programs to continue their training. The third year, there are only 5 slots available, so 8 doctors have to apply for a position elesewhere.
What else is happening is that somebody who didn’t get their preferred residency during the initial Match may get stellar reviews and does get into the preferred program the second year. So there is a lot going on and there are those people within medicine that this means a lot to. There are situations where a pure pedigree will be offered higher inducements.
What do you call the student who graduated last in his medical school?
Doctor!
It does not matter what college or residency you do, being a doctor is being a doctor. Jobs are plentiful for medical doctors esp in the area of family practice.
