Does it matter what graduate school I go to?

Do employers put a lot of merit on what school someone gets their master’s degree from? Are master’s degrees only worth anything if they are from top notch universities?

Does it matter for government jobs?

Thank you for your input!

It all depends on the employer. However most employers would rather hire someone that graduated from Harvard, then some unheard of community college. In addition, most employers don’t really care about what college you got your degree from unless you have no work experience. If you have any work experience they usually put more emphasis on your past work experience and what they thought about you. Lastly, having a master’s degree is always better then only having a bachelor’s no matter where you plan to work. This is because it shows you have a stronger knowledge of the subject at hand and are almost an expert in that area of study.

Government jobs are similar to other jobs except that they run background checks.

I would say that to a certain extent it does not matter, I think that for some cases it does though. If you are going for a top notch job or a research job then it may matter. IF you are going to get your PhD in something then it might matter.

But I would say as long as you do not go to one of those programs are you can finish in like 2 months then you should be fine.

A masters degree is a masters degree and you would be one of only 5% of the world who can say you own one.

The better the reputation of the school, the more powerful your network will be at the end of your period of study. Sad, but true. Your contacts will be your best recruiting agencies.

Any graduate degree is better than noen, however, in the chase for jobs and salaries.
