Does having little attendence at school affect your chances of getting into a good college?

I’m asking this question because for one school year I missed about 50 days and was late for 30 something days. It’s only one school year.Does that still affect my chances of getting into a good college?

Not unless you’re going to a private school. For a public school, as long as you pass the recommended acceptance level and have a way to pay, you can go.

Yes. It most certainly can effect it. Colleges not only look at grades and extra curric. activities, but at attendence and behavior as well. Most students have a harder time attending class in college because of freedom issues anyway, so someone who already has issues with attendence will make them weary. At the very LEAST they will probably ask you about it should you have or need an interview (btw- interviews are the best way to make an impression and set you apart no matter what your record looks like, so schedule them). The only time that it really wouldnt matter (as much) is if it was a medical issue keeping you from school (hospitalization, illness, cancer, ect) which then you should clearly state the reason and what you are doing to help the health issues.

I had an amazing GPA in High School, but got low grades b/c my attendance sucked. I definitely regret being so lazy sometimes, but it depends on your teachers. I’m guessing that most teachers have said something to you about it. I can’t tell you how many times I heard, “You know, I would have given you a 95 had you shown up, but you were never here! So 80 it is.”

I was a phenomenal test taker and my work was excellent, but I could have done so much better grade wise if I had better attendance. I’m persuing law school now and ran into a bit of the same thing in college, but professors are a little bit more lenient towards attendance if your work is great.

It is not your attendance per se which is the problem but rather the consequences of spotty attendance.
