an associates is basically the equivalent of a high school diploma 15 years ago, as far as earning power. it’s not worth what you pay for it.

An associates degree does matter… depending on your field. For instance, an Associates Degree will usually qualify you to be a medical assistant, a paralegal, tax preparation, entry level nursing, accounting assistant or a medical “coder”. All of those are high paying careers that are closed to people who only have high school diplomas.

On the other hand, more and more careers are requiring Bachelor’s Degrees. If you decision is whether to get a BA or an AA… then go for the BA, you’ll have more flexibility. If your decision is whether to settle for a high school diploma, or to get an AA, then go get the AA. You will instantly be better educated, and more qualified than everyone who does not have an AA. And, as an added bonus, if you ever decide to go for a BA, you’ll already have most (if not all) of your general education requirements taken care of.

If you plan to continue your education on the university level, it would be in your best interests to forget about an AA degree and concentrate on classes that a university will accept as transferable units.

Of course it does! Experience is everything! Nowadays with jobs getting less and less their requirements are getting more robust. An associates degree is the lowest degree you can obtain, most are now requiring Bachelors Degrees, which are now easily obtainable thanks to Online learning.
