Documentary comes first?
A filmmaker said to me that at the best film schools, you begin by making documentaries before moving on to make works of fiction? Is it true?

I have a friend who studied cinematography and photography in college, and now works for a film company in New Orleans. He said that his first works were documentaries because the professors want to see that you know how to accurately portray factual information before you move on to spins of fiction. I guess it is true after all, and when you think about it, it makes sense. Learn to portray truth as it is, then you have a deeper appreciation for the portrayal of fiction. Good luck!
