No, college isn’t for everyone, and I’m a college professor. I have two sons – one is very good with his hands – loves to be outdoors, loves to build, loves to take things apart and put them back together again. He was miserable in school, so he quit and now has a job where he gets to do everything he loves. Of course, I would love for him to have a college degree, but he’s so much happier now. My other son is in college now and is the opposite of his brother. He’s not very mechanical and doesn’t really like doing manual labor like his brother. He needs the college education to get a decent desk job.

As far as being overwhelmed, I don’t know what year you are in college, but I think the first couple of years are tough because, if your school is like the mine, you have to take your General Education courses in subjects that you may not like or be that good in. When you get to start taking more classes in your major, it should get better. If it doesn’t, then maybe you haven’t selected the right major, or maybe college just isn’t for you.

Where do you see yourself five years from now? What are you happiest doing? If your answer involves a career that needs a college degree, then stick it out! If it doesn’t, you might want to go talk to the people in Career Services and take an aptitude test and go from there. I’m sure there is pressure to go to school, and while it isn’t for everyone, it does give you options that people without degrees don’t have.

Good luck!

I feel that way now, I am a technical junior(with my hours),but still attending a 2 year school. I need to declare a major by or before Jan. but have no idea what I want to do. I do know that unless you get a technical degree from a 2 year school, or work your way up in a company(say for instance, mcdonalds, because you can eventually own your own store(s).) that the chances for a professional job is hard to come by. I’ve tried looking, even just with a 2 year gen. ed degree. But however, I do not think college is for everyone, but before you drop out or whatever you need a plan, a good one. Like, what you want to do, otherwise you might never get the time back you have to go to school. As far as it getting BETTER, it has its ups and downs, sometimes I just want go to full face into the workforce and make money, but otherwise I know that college is the norm, now. How about considering going Online? Its your schedule and maybe you can find something that’s really interesting, such as communications, english, psychology, etc, and still have time to get experience at a job.(This is what I’m considering.) I think sometimes its VERY overrated to go to college. I wish you blessings in whatever you desire, and if something better comes along that you feel happier doing do it.

Yes there a few schools wherein you’ll be able to take the ones sorts of categories, however they’re most of the time the group institution ones. four 12 months school ones require a type, probably cash to use, and essays. I had taken a cake adorning elegance as soon as at a group institution. And sure, I did meet my partner at institution. It was once our freshman 12 months at Michigan State University. We are supposed for each and every different!

I’ve been wondering the same thing. I’m a freshmen in college and I’m starting to think that college is not for me. The thing that I’m worried about most is that my parents will loose a lot of money if I quit. Good luck to you though. I still don’t know what I’m gonna do.
