do we really need a college degree?
Favorite Answer
something/ points to consider:
– only 25% of u.s. citizens have bacehelor degrees.*
– the more education, the more the income.**
– what matters most in life is for you to pursue your passions and to hell with conventional standards and expectations! college may just be the environment to find what that passion is.***
Best of Luck to You!
If you want to work in retail “Hi, can I help you?” all your life, no. I see plenty of 40-somethings still mopping floors in the back of restaurants. I have an aunt who is 50, and she works making pizzas. No shame in it, just recognize you will probably be stuck at a certain level for a long time.
OR, if you are really motivated, a self-starter, with big ideas, and no fear of anything, you can become a millionaire without a college degree. Read a lot, think up some business plans, pitch it to an investor, get some dosh, start up, and roll. (But really, your chances of success if you haven’t studied what other people have done before you, would be pretty low.)
But you can do it. Friends of mine have. But you better be on the go 100% of the time, or you are gonna end up mopping floors. (In fact, you will probably end up doing some of that no matter what, cuz life is hard work; ESPECIALLY for people who are trying to start a business.)
A college degree just (practically) guarantees that you can make a (somewhat) higher amount of money year after year, because you have trained for a particular job, and it is proof that you are (at least a bit) intelligent and determined, so companies are more likely to trust you with a more important job.
Good luck.
It all depends on you.
