Do professors remember if a student participated in one of their classes?
Favorite Answer
Don’t ask for a recommendation letter from this professor just because you received an A in her class. Ask a professor that knows you and has witnessed you develop as a student. Pick a professor that knows you and your ability even though you didn’t get the best grade in his or her class. That letter will probably carry more weight than a professor that you’ve only had in one class.
If you’re looking at the hard sciences, I’ll say this…if don’t know someone (and I remember the good ones who participate- sorry; the job gets dull if the students don’t give a damn), I’ll suggest that they find someone who can give a more thorough and personal recommendation.
The departmental review board you’re looking to submit an app to is not staffed by zombies- a form-letter is a form letter, and sticks out for it’s lack of content like a fart in a car.
1) Set an appointment to see the professor
2) Tell the professor that it would be nice of him/her to write a letter of recommendation for you
3) Tell the professor that you got an A in the class
4) Tell the professor that although he/she does not know her well, ask for the LOR and if you can write it yourself and get the professor to correct it afterwards
5) If not, try to get the professor to interview you so he/she can write something about you.
