Well, they do care about junior year the most, but they DO look at the classes taken in senior year, and these are equally important as they classes you’ve taken your junior year. However, your junior year grades matter more than your senior year grades as they will be looking at these more. I think you should definitely go for challenging classes your senior year (I’m assuming you’re going to be a senior next year) because they always like to see that you’ve challenged yourself while maintaining a good GPA. Definitely challenge yourself whether you are going to be a junior or senior.

I recommend this: Take as many AP classes you can your junior and senior years, but save the “hard” AP classes for your senior year. Example: AP Bio in my school is MUCH harder in my school than AP Chem. Therefore, I’m taking AP Chem my junior year, and AP bio my senior year. It would allow me to get a good GPA, and take challenging classes as well in my junior year. the year colleges look at most.

Colleges base their decision on admission by your junior grades because towards the middle of senior year, you should have already applied to your colleges. This makes it not ideal to check senior grades.

However, some seniors know this and slack off the last year.

Even though you might have made it in already, do not slack off in senior year. Some colleges look back at these grades just to check up on you (or for some other reason that i am not aware of).

So, yes, this does make Junior year more important than Senior year, but keep your guard up, and your grades.

Because you generally apply for college before you get your fall semester grades in senior year, senior grades aren’t usually considered in the application process (although if you let senior year slide, they can rescind an offer), but your freshman and sophomore grades count, along with your junior year grades, for your college applications. The colleges will see that you are taking a rigorous program, which is important, especially at good schools, and it will help you in college if you take challenging courses as a senior, but the grades won’t much matter to college admission.
