I think yes to all of your questions. I took creative writing for 4 years at Ohio State and the workshops really helped me understand different perspectives as it pertained to writing. You get to review other’s work and really apply a level of thinking that you probably don’t even know you have. You will definitely become familiar with the different genres in writing (i.e. fiction, non fiction, sci fi, etc.) and you’ll probably have your taste of reading some of that fiction since you’ll be in a class with a variety of different types.
