I’ve decided to go to my towns Techincal College.

Do Tech. Degrees look bad when applying for jobs?

And which is better to get in college, a Degree or Diploma?

This college and my previous school has done NOTHING to prepare me for this. Please help!

Usually you get a high school diploma. You get a college degree.

And it depends on the job you’re applying to. At Tech. Colleges (or vocational schools), you study a very specific craft or field and get certification in it, so you should plan to go into whatever specific career you study.

The only thing a technical degree would do for you is make you look BETTER. In future jobs, you will either qualify or not. Different jobs have different requirements – I have a BSEE but that would not qualify me for a job as a plumber as I don’t have those skills.

But what such a degree does show is a desire and drive to better yourself even if the degree doesn’t end up being exactly applicable to the job – an important discriminator when competing against 100 other applicants. And if the degree is in the area applicable to the job, you are in a much better position than an applicant that doesn’t have one.

The important thing is that you do well in whatever endeavor you take on. Whether it is a certificate program or a Ph.D. program, doing poorly is rarely a benefit.

But the second part – a diploma is just a piece of paper identifying what it is you’ve accomplished. Nothing beyond that. Maybe you meant is it better to get a Degree or a certificate? The general hierarchy is…

“Certificate”, Associates Degree, Bachelors Degree, Masters Degree, Ph.D.

However, depending on the career you are looking for, a “certificate” could be just the thing. But if it does anything, it will only make you look better – no matter what job you try to acquire.

But also be aware of cost-benefit. What would this education (whether certificate or Ph.D.) get you (your goal might be salary, it might be a job in your passion and salary is not an issue). Is what this education could possibly get you more beneficial than the expense of the program? For example, if you are primarily concerned about salary, some technical certificates or associate degrees might qualify you for a higher paying job. If a certificate qualifies you for a job making $5 more an hour than you can currently make – and the degree will end up costing you $20,000, after taxes and lost wages while you are in school, it will take you about 6 years to BREAK EVEN. Just really think things through and do the math.

It’s better to get a degree. However, if you can get the diploma first, and then apply that to a degree, then that can be helpful. But you want the degree in the end. That’s what employers will be looking for.

Tech degrees don’t necessarily look bad, but it depends on the school and on the subject you major in. Is this a private tech college, or a public one – one which is actually part of your state’s community college system?

If it’s private, then sometimes, it can actually look better to have gone to your local community college instead, and majored in the same thing. This can also be a lot cheaper. But if the tech college is actually part of your state’s community college system, then those can be of good quality and quite a bargain. And in some cases, a private tech college can have a very good reputation with employers in your region. You’d need to do some research about the reputation of that particular school in your region.

While you’re in school, try to do a co-op, or internship, or get a part-time job or do volunteer work in the field you’re studying. This sort of real-world experience will make it more likely that you’ll get a job in your field when you graduate.

It really depends on what you want to do after college. I dropped out of the university I was going to and then went to a technical school for an associate’s degree. I ended up going back to a real college that was even better than the first place I went because I realized that I wasn’t going to get that good of a job with only an associate’s degree. I’ve also discovered that even though technical schools promise you better jobs and tell you that there is a high demand for certain kinds of jobs, the hospital that I live by would rather hire college students working towards bachelor’s degrees than people who have recently graduated from technical college and already have a degree. Employers would prefer to hire people who are interested in continuing their education rather than someone who only goes to school for 18 months. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, I find my degree helpful when I’m applying for a job and employers ask about my experience. I’m only 20, so it looks good. But seriously, you end up spending $30,000 for and 18 month program where you will only get a job that pays $15 an hour for the rest of your life. And yeah, that seems good at first, but eventually you will want more.

I think it should be more want type (sort) of career you want

I thought technical colleges/TAFE only did diplomas?

Where as Universities are where you get a degree

The main thing is that you end up acquiring an qualification of some sort. Does it matter whether it’s done through training and further education compared to higher (tertiary education)?

Some people may tell you uni is better and what comes with having a degree or degrees.

It has to be for the type of career you want though.

Uni is really tough and hard.

It shouldn’t be the end of the world if someone drops out or is excluded from uni for whatever reasons.

Tech Degrees are not always a bad idea. I think that if you have the motivation and determination to do what you can to get ahead in life, that just might put you in a better position than a degree. Remember, experience means more than people think. Try volunteering beside the person in a position you want to see what you might like.

First of all take a deep breath and chill!

You had accomplished obtaining your excellent education.

Diploma is given by colleges and degrees are given by universities.

Your best in technology education?

Go to technical college, however before you even enroll, check to see are the professors are as human beings.

Take a tour around the campus, check on the professors to see how well they teach, how their manners are towards people. If they are not much help and/or rude then don’t apply there because you’ll in misery.

You want to go to college and/or university that is beneficial and will get you everything you worked hard for and strive to the fullest extent to be.

To make your time in college and/or university easy, take one of those current college and/or university guides and look at the exact career path you want to take.

In that section that describes the course you will see a whole list of every single class you will be taking through out the course, there is a bar code and the page number this for each individual class, go to the pages of each and every class for this course and read the full details of these classes because it’s important! It’s clearify your mind, and tune it to understand the whole course the best!

You have to know the full detailed description of each and every class listed for this course because without this knowledge you’ll be far behind.

After enrolling you are given a list of all the school books you need! Buy these at the store brand-new!

DON’T buy these used because every single year these college books are updated so you need to be current.

This year is 2007, if there is 2007 editions printed buy them!

Don’t settle for 2006, if there’s already a 2007 printed and available! DON’T BUY THESE BOOKS USED!

BUY NEW! In computer classes for this course BUY THE BRAND NEW computer set your need for that class, especially for the computerized test because that is a one time use only! Once you complete the teston the computer from the computer disc, it’s no longer of any use!

DON’T BUY THR COMPUTER DISC SET YOU NEED FOR THE COMPUTER TEST FOR YOUR COMPUTER TEST OF YOUR COURSE USED! You’ll never have a test and fail!

I know there are ads from people who want to sell their used books, and/or supplies and colleges and/or universities allow them to do so.

DON’T BUY THEM!

BUY BRAND NEW, CURRENT, UP TO DATE!

BE SURE TO CHECK THE PUBLISHING DATES OF EACH BOOK BEFORE YOU BUY IT!

Best results?!

Take the time to enjoy reading these books because when you do you, you know them by heart and won’t fail any class.

Also, take it upon yourself to read ahead of the chapters.

Read the whole book, that way you will understand the book and won’t fail!

Sit in the front row of the class and LISTEN to the professor because the professor wants you to listen to every single word he or she says!

Take noted of what the professor says.

For education trips that are a part of this course, write down the exact date of when the excursion takes, the time it takes it place, the time you have to arrive, every single item you need for this outing, and exactly what you must complete on this trip.

Be sure to stock up on tons of lined, ruled papar, also have plain unlined paper, pens, notepads, thick binders to hold every sheet you need for semester 1 and those paper cover binders for projects After semester 1 is finished, and semester 2 begins get another thick binder for those every single sheet you need for semester 2.

Be sure to continue to stock up on ruled paper, plain paper, pens, notepads, and thick binders, and also those paper cover binders for school projects.

Don’t talk to anyone when your in class and the teacher is talking you’ll miss important details that could result in your failure! Be rude by telling that person to SHUT UP in front of everyone, including the teacher if that person doesn’t want to shut up!

Believe in yourself, be the best, be responsible, be punctual, be alert, be prepared always for anything( surprise pop-up quizes, etc.) always have everything you need for your course in your bag that you take to school with you and DON’T LEND ANYTHING TO ANYONE! IF THEY FORGOT WHAT THEY NEED FOR CLASS TOO BAD FOR THEM! YOU WILL END UP SUFFERING BECAUSE THEY WILL END UP LOSING IT AND/OR FORGETTING IT AT HOME!

DON’T LEND YOUR BOOKS TO ANYONE!

THOSE ARE YOUR BOOKS! YOU PAID FOR THEM FOR YOU! NOT ANYONE ELSE! IF THEY ARE TOO CHEAP TO BUY THEIR OWN THEN TOO BAD FOR THEM!

YOU’RE THERE FOR YOUR OWN BENEFIT!

NOT THEIRS!

DO your work in class, and your homework at home.

After your homework is done, study, study, study!

If your part-time job interfers with this course, QUIT!

That job isn’t worth the sacrifice of your education!

If your boss wants you to stay behind late, and/or work more hours then you want to, DON’T!

If they get upset and deman to know why?

Try to force you to stay behind and/or work more hours than you want to, then that’s aggression and you should leave!

You don’t have to take that kind of vile abuse and put up with it!

You’re better than that!

These bosses at those part-time, minimum wage low paying jobs don’t care about you and the workers.

They just want their business done at cheap wages.

That’s why want to give most of the part time hours to the lowest paid teenagers and anyone else who doens’t get much of a salary rate! By giving more and extra hours to a part-time worker that makes only $6.85 is much cheaper than getting the part-time worker who has more seniority earning $10.00. It saves company money and most of all the bosses money. Any money owed to workers that goes beyond what the head office had given to each boss comes out of the bosses pocket. That’s why they choose the cheapest paid worker! If that doesn’t work, then the boss will try to rip off the worker! Don’t be those two-bit bosses flunky!

Think of yourself! Think of your education!
