Aspiring to be a Doctor

I want to become a doctor. Can someone suggest me how may I do that?

I am a mom currently a working part-time in a Maths related field. I do not have much background in Bio-related subjects, however, I have studied Biology and Zoology till Tenth grade and did pretty well. I had been a straight A student throughout. I am looking for the guidelines such as –

a) What should be the first step towards gathering more information on this subject?

b) What courses do I need to take to get started.

c) What should be the best plan of action?

d) How long will it take to complete the entire process before I can call myself a doctor?

Any suggestions and pieces of leads are welcome.

Most 2 year (community) colleges have “pre-med” courses and if you talk to your counselor they can set you up.

You have to complete pre-med and then be accepted into a med course to get your 4 year. You then have to go to med school, and upon graduation take board exams. You also have to do pre-graduation and post-graduation internships/externships. Only after that are you a “doctor.”

One thing you might seriously consider is what type of doctor you want to be. My sister got 4.0 throughout HS and college, got a 4 year in Biology and still wasn’t able to get into “Med School”, so she became a podiatrist.

It will take you at least 6 years and probably closer to 8-10.

a) Contact a local college or university. Someone there should be able to help you out–especially if there is a pre-med program offered there.

b) I believe that would depend on the school. Biology and calculus classes, I would think.

c) I’m not sure what you mean…but try getting all of your information before you make a definite decision.

d) 8 years? Give or take a few years, depending on how long it takes you to complete your courses.

If I’m wrong with any of this, someone please feel free to correct me.
