College Entrance?
Is there one standard that universities go by when admitting students? What is if you have one student, who attends a rigourous private high school & is getting by with a 2.5 GPA and you have another student who, goes to a public school not really known for their academics, & has a 3.5 GPA. What is taken in consideration when colleges are looking at kids who come from private high school vs. public high schools. The standard is much higher in private school, but will the public school student with a 3.5 have a better chance than the private school student with a 2.5 GPA??? How does it work for the UC & CSU system???

all schools have certain requirements every applicant (public and private school students) must meet in order to be considered for admission when they apply such as credit in certain courses, gpa, test scores, etc. no matter what, if you dont meet these standards you will be rejected unless they dont get anough applicants to meet their quota for the school year. in other words, the more people that apply = more competition = ability to reject anyone that doesnt meet their set rules for admission, or higher depending on the “over-achievers” of the bunch. once you meet those standards than other things that may be important to the school get considered. it could be based on whether your a legacy (related to any alumni), extracurricular activities, high level test scores and gpa, hobbies, rigorous level of course work, an interesting essay, etc. the best way to know what a college is looking for is to find out what’s the minimum requirements to be considered and what they look for the most in all their candidates and you’ll probably find that the school you go to isnt always a big deal….unless it feeds into the school and/or makes the college lots of money in some way through donations, advertisements, recruiting, athletics, etc. good luck!

If you want to know what criterion the schools use to admit students, the best thing is to contact those very schools which you have interest.

No, it somewhat is a placement try. An front try, they decide for in case you meet their standards for his or her college. community colleges oftentimes do not turn all people away, they only use the attempt to decide for a beginning element for you.
