College Admissions Question?

I had a terrible freshman year with a 2.75 in two honors courses. But i turned around and had a 3.57 my sophomore year again in two honors courses. Right now my cumulative gpa is 3.13. If I got straight A’s this year in 2 AP and 2 honors classes, and had a 3.5 cumulative gpa at the end of my junior year, will i still get a chance to go to good colleges. Im African-American, I volunteer, and im in b-ball and track and other activities. I plan to have my SAT score at least in the 2000 range. I want to apply to schools like Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Penn State, Syracuse, Boston U, NYU and maybe Penn. Do I have a chance? Thanks

I don’t know, but what I’m advising everyone nowadays is this: go to your local community college for the first two years. Get your General Ed. requirements out of the way, there, & then transfer to your preferred school. You’ll save a bundle of money, & unless you’re going for an athletic scholarship, it’ll probably be a lot easier for you, in the long run! I hate to see students in lots of debt after college.

If you get straight A’s as a junior, you probably would have a chance of getting into: Pittsburgh, Penn State, Rutgers, Syracuse, Boston U and maybe NYU and Penn. NYU and Penn are pretty selective schools.

The best thing I would advise with schools like Penn State and Pitt is to apply early because they have a rolling admission process. Your grades/SAT scores sound alright but these schools get more and more selective as it gets later in the school year. People who might have gotten in in September, might not in December. Also, if you had a really bad year academically for some reason, usually you can use the admission essay to explain it.

If you maintain your gpa over a 3.5 your junior year and senior year and do get something in the 2000 range you should have no trouble getting into all of them schools. I would ad another TOP 25 school besides Penn, because of affirmative action you’ll get in. Use affirmative action to your advantage. Had my SAT scores been higher I probably would have applied to Top 25 schools.

Oh yeah id say you have a chance. Your lucky ur a minority, you get a huge advantage as schools diversify. If you get the SAT’s in the 2000’s you would be completely set. Screw community college, if you can’t get into a state school, then that might be a good idea, but community college is a waste if you can get into a good school.

depends on ur sat scores. you dont really have any leadership, and your gpa is kinda low. penn and nyu are reaches for u but evrything else i think you can get in pretty easily
