Can you receive financial aid if you do not have a green card?
and if you can’t receive financial aid because you don’t have a green card, can you take out loans within FAFSA, or do you have to take private loans such as from chase, citi, etc.

I’m sorry these ignorant people assume that just because you don’t have a green card that you are an illegal immigrant. They obviously know nothing about immigration!
Only US citizens can get FEDERAL financial aid from the government. However, your school can still give you scholarships, and you can get private scholarships from other places as well. Check with the school to see if you qualify for any of their scholarships. Most have one for international students.

If you are on a student visa you cannot receive financial aid and should not complete the fafsa. Since student loan are considered financial aid, you cannot even receive a student loan unless you are eligible to complete the fafsa. You can go to the bank and ask them to give you a private loan, but it should not be connected with the school in any way. Read the instructions on the fafsa application and it will give you the exact classifications of eligible and ineligible immigration status. Hope this is helpful.

You can’t receive US government-based student aid, but you can receive scholarships directly from the university. A friend of mine got one of those, for part of his tuition. The rest he did via a private loan. So you will need to fill out the FAFSA, so the university can see if you qualify for any of their aid, and so you can see how much of a private loan you’ll need to take out.
