Help me please,… Can someone give me some tips on what and how, to write in a college application?

When they ask,…”What unique qualities or characteristics do you possess, and how will those characteristics allow you to contribute to our college legacy?”

I’m applying for Bethune-Cookman College in Florida

Thankyou all in advance:-)

You have to read the literature that the college puts out and see what they highlight about their institution. You have to read a bit between the lines. Look at their curriculumn. What’s the college known for, what kinds of organizations do they have on campus, what do they value. That gives you an idea whether they’re looking for people who have, for example, a big social conscience, or whether they want to train the new business leaders, or whether they are big into arts.

If you see that they have a lot of clubs that are into volunteer work (social conscience), then you want to stress those aspects of your personality that would contribute to what they do. (i.e. you tell them examples where you have demonstrated your engagement in social stuff).

If it’s business, then you want to stress those aspects of your personality that demonstrate say leadership ability or a ‘can-do’ attitude.

Let’s stick with the social conscience example then. You could then tell them that you’d contribute to their college legacy by joining one or two of their on-campus clubs or an organization that they’re affiliated with.

Again, this social conscience issue is just an example. What exactly it is that they stress, you have to get out of their literature. Hope that helps.

Just tell them some things about you that make you you. I am applying to Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburg and they have a similar question. If you are clumsy tell them, add anything that will make the admissions officials remember you. With so many people applying to Uni thease days, you realy do need to stand out from the croud in some way

It’s so hard to write that stuff and not sound egotistical, stiff, or like every other student applying to that school.

Try something different instead. Approach it with a sense of humor, and write something off the wall. Write it well, and consider doing something so over-the-top that the admissions people will be very impressed with you.
