Yes, especially if you have some kind of life experience that would add to their diversity. I don’t want to be rude, but NYU is all about diversity, and if you can prove that you are unique because of how hard your life was, it just might be enough to be one of the 10% that get admitted there. I actually got rejected from NYU being in the top 5% of my class and having spectacular SAT scores, because I wasn’t a minority.

So yes, if you add to diversity, as the above poster said.
