Can you get into law school with any major?

I know the common ones of philosophy and political science but I was wondering if you can get into law school say with a degree in Business Administration.

Yes you can get into law school with any major. Pre-Law is probably the worst degree to get ironically to prepare you for law school. Get something you are interested in. English is a good major because writing is important. Getting a science degree is good if you want to get into patents/intellectual property. History is good too. But you can get accepted with any major.

A lot of poli sci and philosophy majors go to law school because, frankly its a good paying job that you can get after leaving school with a liberal arts degree, not because law schools prefer people with those degrees.

Frankly I would simply recommend that you do well in a program that does not have a reputation for being an easy way to get through college. Anyone who comes out of a reputable department in a reputable school with good grades and a good LSAT score should have no trouble getting in a law school.

It doesn’t really matter what your major is. Though most law students are history or pol sci majors, there are even Engineering, Theater, and Finance Studentse etc.. Law schools care about GPA and the LSAT over all the other things (recommendations, personal statement, resume, etc.) but they will view the application with a look at the other things only after they’ve put you in the “maybe” pile because of GPA & LSAT. Now, it will be the big law firms, if you plan to work in one, who may view your major carefully depending on the specialization you intend to take. Oher potential employers may care as well but majority really don’t.

You can absolutely get into law school if your have a BA and majored in something other than the typical “pre-law” choices, of which poly-sci is probably the most obvious. It really is true that there are no course pre-requisites for law school (as contrasted with, say, med school). While I’m not personally familiar with majors in business admin I’ll go out on a limb and say yes, you can certainly get into law school if business admin is what your majored in. Law school admissions committees look at what courses you took, certainly, and of course at how well you did, but they look pretty hard at your LSAT scores and what you did outside of class, too.

As an undergrad at a liberal arts college I majored in psychology, with a heavy emphasis on women’s studies. Outside of psych/women’s studies I took a lot of classes in religion, predominantly eastern religion (and had a sprinkling of literature, a bit of philosophy, lots of dance, and some outlying oddities I can’t even recall). With that, I went to an excellent law school. I also served on the admissions committee during my third year and we absolutely weren’t looking to dismiss an application on the basis of someone’s majoring in something other than poli-sci (and for some of us, the thought of another applicant with a poli-sci major was nauseating, and we were always happy to see something less obvious).

Law students enter law school with a variety of majors like engineering, family and consumer sciences. Even a student with a Ph.D in Biochemistry enters law school. In the movie Legally Blonde with Reese Witherspoon (Have you ever seen that movie?), Elle Woods got into Harvard Law School with a degree in Fashion Design/Merchandising with a perfect 4.0 GPA and was President of her sorority. There are law students who graduated with degree with a variety of majors (some I explained are unknown). Good luck getting into law school!

I was told that the easiest way to get into law school was to have an uncommon major like chemistry or physics because they like a little diversity and a lot of people do philosphy and polisci.

But that might lock you into the type of law you practice, I know that chemical patent law pays HUGE, but I would have to imagine that it’s incredibly dull and boring. Of course, most kinds of law are just that.

Any major will do. Remember is not what you majored in but how you did in that major. Poly Si is getting old and jaded. Business is a great major for law school. It shows you are creative. Good luck
