Business major or pre law?

I go to UConn and am looking to go into International Business but I have a feeling that i should go into law. I wanted to know which one is better in the long run of my life and which one pays more?

Jeff Lebowski had the only real good answer. Most of the rest were garbage and ignorant lies.

There is no “pre-law” degree. Just like there’s no “pre-med” degree. You can major in anything and still call yourself “pre-law”.

You don’t need Political Science for law school. It’s an absolutely useless major. If you like politics, fine. Do it for that. However, for law, it is utterly and completely useless. History isn’t much better. Law school will teach you the very little you need to know about how law relates to politics or the history of the legal system.

So, pick Intl Business. You can still choose law school later on if you wish. Just take the LSAT and you’ll be eligible. No one can say which one will pay better. There are lawyers who make $30,000/yr. There are those that can make millions. Most top out at less than $500,000/yr. Even at large firms. IB can similarly have a very wide range of salaries. There are a lot of factors.

Just pick IB and as you go along, talk to professors and classmates and you’ll get a better feel as to whether you want to go into law, or maybe get a MBA.

You can do International business as your major AND be pre law. Pre law is not a major, its just a track that helps you get into law school. A law degree will probably give you a bigger salary in the long run, depending on which type of law you practice. But so can a business degree. It all depends on you, really.

The degree is Political Science with concentration in Pre-law; there isn’t a pre-law degree.

You can actually combine the two. Almost every liberal arts [[Political science]] makes you take a minor. Minor in international business and see where it takes you. Both fields are great as far as money and jobs go. Who knows, you could end up being a lawyer for an international business.

go for international business since any major can enter law school. International business does have job opportunities open to it. Choose a major that your good at since that way you’ll get good grades in it and if you change your mind about law school then you can just have a B.A. in international business and have a profitable future.

There is no “Pre Law” degree. Get any undergraduate degree, in business if you like, then take the LSAT and apply to law school. You can get your international business degree, then go to law school after that.

Major in International Business. Pre-law degrees are not a good idea and are not a guarantee of going to law school. If you get out of school, take your LSATs and bomb them, you’re not going to law school anyway and you’re out of a degree. Most people who end up going to law school major in English or History because lawyers have to know how to write and know how the law was applied before. If you major in International Business and bomb your LSATs, you still have something to apply it to. If you do go to law school, you’ll have many wonderful ways of applying your expertise, the best is as a lawyer who knows the business law around the world.

Neither will pay more. They are only undergrad degrees. Just pick one and graduate first, work a few years and then decide if you want to get MBA or Law degree. Both can make decent money. Law might make a bit more at entry level, but you also gotta pass the BAR test first.

This is pretty tough because all three are rewarding careers. If you go into business, it’s much harder to get into careers because of so many people who have a degree in this. If you do, I encourage you to get your MBA(Masters in Business Administration).
